The Tyger
A downloadable game
This seed is an Inform 10 riff on the eponymous Blake poem, but leaving the thematic and story pieces to the Sprouter in order to focus on a possibly-novel-to-IF puzzle mechanic. Focusing on the "fearful symmetry" phrase, the idea is that the player "programs" their actions, then triggers a replay that fires them all off on reverse. Or rather, almost all, since the poem slyly breaks its own rules; the last line of the first stanza is almost but not exactly the same as the last line of the last stanza, and of course "eye" doesn't quite rhyme with "symmetry". So as implemented the player's first action isn't included in the playback, though that could be changed.
My thought is that the game would wind up being a single optimization-style puzzle, which the player would iteratively solve through repeated (short) plays. I've left the substance of the puzzle, and even the objective, completely open; I've set up a test environment with a rather literal interpretation of the poem to show off the mechanic though I'm not sure how far that would wind up going! Certainly feel free to discard it (or anything else, of course) if the spirit so moves.

"story.ni" is the source code; you can copy and paste the text into your IDE, or just rename it and plop it into the appropriate project folder. The sample transcript demonstrates the replay mechanic as currently implemented.
